Is my private liability insurance also valid abroad?

Dear insurance lawyer,

My name is Luisa Schottmann and I have a question regarding my private liability insurance. I am planning a trip abroad soon and I am wondering if my insurance is also valid there.

My private liability insurance currently only covers me in Germany. However, as I will be traveling abroad for an extended period of time, I am concerned about whether I am adequately insured there. In the event of damage or injury that I cause abroad, I want to ensure that my insurance will cover any potential costs.

I have already tried to review the terms and conditions of my liability insurance, but as a layperson, they are difficult for me to understand and I am not sure if I have found all the relevant information.

Could you please tell me if my private liability insurance is also valid abroad and provides sufficient coverage? If not, are there ways to extend my insurance coverage for abroad or to take out an additional foreign liability insurance?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,
Luisa Schottmann

Dear Mrs. Schottmann,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding your private liability insurance and its validity abroad. It is understandable that you are concerned about whether you are adequately covered when traveling abroad for an extended period of time. It is important to clarify all information in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises in the event of a claim.

Regarding your private liability insurance, I can inform you that most insurances generally also apply abroad, but often only for a limited period of time or under certain conditions. Therefore, it is advisable to check the exact insurance conditions to ensure that you are adequately covered abroad.

If you find that your insurance coverage abroad is not sufficient, you have various options to extend your protection. One option would be to speak with your insurance company and inquire about adding an extension for foreign countries. Often, insurance companies offer special foreign liability insurances that provide additional protection abroad.

It is important to note that the terms and conditions for foreign liability insurance may vary depending on the insurance company. Therefore, it is advisable to seek comprehensive advice and compare different offers to find the best solution for your needs.

If you are still unsure or need assistance in reviewing your insurance conditions, I am available for a personal consultation. Please do not hesitate to contact me to clarify any further questions and ensure that you are optimally protected for your planned trip abroad.

I hope this information is helpful to you and I am available at any time.

Best regards,
Sophia Evers
