Ask a lawyer on the topic of Immigration law

What options do I have to extend my residence permit?

Dear lawyer,

My name is Jan Hausdorf and I am reaching out to you because I urgently need help with a legal matter. I have been in Germany for two years and have a residence permit for job seekers. Unfortunately, I have not yet found a permanent job and my permit will expire in three months. I am very worried about my future here in Germany, as I would like to stay but do not know what options there are to extend my residence permit.

I have already written several job applications and attended job fairs, but so far without success. I am very motivated to work in Germany and build my life here, but my current situation is causing me great concern. I have taken some language courses to improve my German skills, but this has not yet led to a permanent job either.

Can you please tell me what options there are to extend or expand my residence permit? Are there programs or support options for job seekers like me? I am willing to do everything to secure my stay in Germany and look forward to your help and advice.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Jan Hausdorf

Dear Mr. Hausdorf,

Thank you for your message and your trust in my legal advice. I understand that your current situation is concerning, but I want to assure you that there are various options to extend or expand your residence permit in Germany.

In your case, since you have a residence permit for job seekers, there are specific requirements and options to extend your residence permit. One possibility would be to continue actively searching for jobs and to demonstrate that you are making serious efforts to find employment. It is important to carefully document all applications and activities related to job searching.

Additionally, you could also look into programs and support options specifically offered for job seekers like yourself. For example, there are integration courses that not only improve your German language skills but also provide important information about the German job market and integration into society. It could also be beneficial to inquire at the employment agency or other migrant advisory services about possible funding and support opportunities.

It is important for you to gather all relevant documents and to consult with an immigration lawyer early on to discuss your individual situation and take timely action. Together, we can develop a strategy to secure your residence permit and increase your chances of a successful job search.

Please do not hesitate to contact me to schedule a consultation and clarify any questions you may have. I am at your disposal and will do my best to assist you with your legal matter.

Sincerely,

Adele Gerdes
