Is liposuction also possible in cases of overweight?

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Jenny Schwaru and I have been suffering from obesity for a long time. Despite various diets and physical activity, it seems that my weight just won't decrease. I have now reached a point where I no longer feel comfortable in my body and I am experiencing health problems such as back pain and joint issues.

I have heard about the possibility of a liposuction, where excess fat tissue is surgically removed. I wonder if such an operation is possible and advisable for severe obesity. Is my body even suitable for it and what risks should be considered?

I am also concerned whether liposuction can really lead to a permanent weight loss in the long term or if there could be complications. What would be the recovery time after the procedure and what are the chances of success?

I would appreciate it if you could provide me with your professional assessment on this matter and possibly recommend alternative treatment methods that could be more effective for my obesity.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Sincerely,
Jenny Schwaru

Dear Mrs. Schwaru,

Thank you for your inquiry and for trusting in my expertise. Obesity is a serious health issue that can bring both physical and mental burdens. It is good that you are considering possible treatment methods and informing yourself before making a decision.

Liposuction, also known as fat removal, is indeed a way to surgically remove excess fat tissue. However, this method is primarily suitable for targeted shaping of certain body parts and is not a suitable treatment for severe obesity. In cases of high BMI and a large percentage of body fat, liposuction is not recommended as it does not lead to significant weight loss.

Furthermore, as with any surgical procedure, there are risks to consider with liposuction. These include infections, bruising, swelling, and uneven results. Additionally, complications such as asymmetry, numbness, or unwanted scarring can occur. The recovery time after liposuction varies depending on the extent of the procedure but can be several weeks.

For individuals with severe obesity, it is important to consider holistic treatment approaches that aim for long-term weight reduction and a healthy lifestyle. This may include dietary changes, regular exercise, psychological support if needed, and in some cases, medication therapies or bariatric surgeries such as gastric bypass.

I strongly recommend that you consult with a specialist in obesity or a nutrition expert to create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your needs and health. Liposuction is not suitable as a primary measure for you and should only be considered as a supplementary measure if other methods do not yield sufficient results.

I wish you all the best on your journey to a healthier life and am available for any further questions.

Kind regards,

Eva Koch
