Why am I suddenly wearing reading glasses?

Dear Sir or Madam,

my name is Nina Kroll and I am 36 years old. Recently, I have noticed that I suddenly have difficulty seeing things up close sharply. Until a few weeks ago, I had no problems with my vision and could easily read or work on the computer without glasses. However, suddenly I have found it difficult to recognize small print or details without having to hold the text further away.

This change has concerned me and I wonder why I suddenly need to wear glasses for close-up. I have not had any vision problems before and I wonder if this could be a sign of a more serious eye condition. I also wonder if this sudden change in my vision is permanent or if there are ways to improve my eyesight again.

Could you please explain to me why my vision has changed so suddenly and if there are common causes for it? Are there possible treatments or measures I can take to improve or stabilize my eyesight? I would like to learn more about my situation and hope that you can help me.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,
Nina Kroll

Dear Mrs. Kroll,

Thank you for your message and your trust. It is understandable that sudden changes in vision can cause concern. I would like to provide you with some information and discuss possible causes and treatment options.

The sudden onset of vision problems up close can have various causes. One of the most common causes is presbyopia, also known as age-related farsightedness. This typically occurs from the age of 40 onwards and results in a decrease in the elasticity of the lens in the eye, affecting near vision. This could explain why you suddenly have difficulty seeing things up close, even though you had no problems before.

However, there are other possible causes for sudden changes in vision, such as uncorrected refractive errors, eye conditions like cataracts, or inflammation in the eye. To determine the exact cause of your vision problems, I strongly recommend visiting an eye doctor. A comprehensive eye exam can help determine the underlying cause of your vision problems and explore treatment options.

Depending on the cause, there are different treatment options available. For presbyopia, reading glasses or progressive lenses may help improve near vision. For other causes such as refractive errors, contact lenses or laser surgery may be considered. For more serious eye conditions, medication or surgical treatment may be necessary.

It is important to see an eye doctor as soon as possible to diagnose the cause of your vision problems and receive the best possible treatment. The earlier a potential eye condition is detected and treated, the better the chances of healing and improving vision.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions or need support, I am here to help. Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery for your vision.
